At our lunchtime meeting today, our President Elect Michael Smailes presented a cheque to Phoebe  Day, the fundraising manager of Brendoncare

Michael Smailes Presenting a cheque to Phoebe Day from Brendon Care

In accepting the cheque for £300, she spoke about her grandfather who in her words was “A bit of a legend” in her family.  He worked in special effects for the BBC and worked on tv programmes like ‘Dad’s Army’, ‘Doctor Who’ – he helped to build the Daleks and many others.

But nowadays she said “he cannot remember what he was told 5 minutes ago”.

Her Grandfather has dementia and as she said  “Whilst there is no cure for dementia, there is Brendoncare”.

Brendoncare is a registered charity, dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people through our care homes, close care facilities and social clubs across the South of England.

They have 10 care homes across the south of England, each with its own distinctive character, some with specialist dementia units.
