50th Farnborough Donkey Derby was a ”Sizzling” success

The Rotary clubs of Farnborough, Rushmoor and Blackwater Valley staged their 50 th annual Donkey
Derby at the King George Vth Playing Fields last Sunday where the event was attended by over
10,000 visitors.

John Batty the Chairman of the organising Committee stated that thanks to the fantastic weather,
all their objectives had been met namely to promote Rotary within the Borough of Rushmoor and to
give the local community a fantastic family day out.

We try to provide something for everyone and again this year we had a great deal of free family
entertainment going on including stage shows, featuring local groups and schools who entertained
the vast crowds throughout the day.

For the younger ones there was plenty going on with face painting, pony rides and children’s
entertainers and the usual now famous Baby Shows.

For the more daring the 30 foot climbing wall and Donkey Races proved again to be a great
attraction, with the Fun Fair providing thrills for everyone .

This event has changed over recent years and is now acknowledged as a way the local Rotary Clubs
can thank the local community for their continued support over the years.
